Base Ball Snap Shots Candy

Jay S. Meyer, Philadelphia PA.

RARE - These small 1.1" by 1.2" handcut blank backed sepia cards are one of the more mysterious of the era. The true origin of these cards is unknown. Most collectors think the W555 cards were most likely cut from a candy box of some kind, and probably from the flap at end of box as cards with extra large borders have a factory cut round end on one side. Yet no complete box or strip is known. To date there are 66 different cards known.

Update:  A complete box has been discovered (sold for $23,000 at Mastros in Aug. 2007). It has 4 cards as endflaps to a candy box titled "Base Ball Snap Shots".
