W511 Ruth (maroon)

W511 Ruth (blue #71)

RARE - Some catalogs list these 1.3" by 2.2" cards as "1924 W-Unc.", but they are really from the set known as W511 in the ACC (American Card Catalog). There is only a single baseball player found in this tough issue (Babe Ruth), with most cards in this anonymous set picturing Movie, Aviator, or Western stars. The set dates to 1926 by looking at some of the subjects on known cards. These crude strip cards are found in a few different color/numbering variations. The set is known in 4 different colors. The most often seen color is a Blue Tint, but they are also found in B&W or a far rarer Orange or Maroon Tint as well (No Orange Tint Babe Ruth cards are known). The Babe Ruth card is found with numbers 1, 52, 71, or with no number. The total number of cards in a complete set is unknown.
