"Famous Athletes"

SCARCE - These 1933 US Caramel cards are not frequently seen as far as 1930's issues go. They are made by the U.S. Caramel Co. of Boston and came with caramel in 1933. The cards picture a few other famous athletes from different sports, but the majority are baseball players (27 out of 32). The R328 cards are similar to a 1933 Goudey card in size and card stock, they are 2.5" by 3" and all have a bright red background. Backs are printed in black ink and include the card number, the players name and bio, and the company name and rules for a redemption offer to the kids for a baseball or a fielder's glove. The offer was for the complete set of 32 cards, 1 complete set would get the ball, 3 complete sets would receive the glove. Most likely not many kids would have taken them up on the offer as only 2 examples of the #16 Charles Lindstrom card exist today (1 about VG, & 1 with ink "Cancelled" stamped on back along with 2 small punch holes). Both examples of the #16 card now book for close to $75,000 ea. in their roughly VG shape.
