COMMON to RARE - These attractive blank backed postcard sized photos were given out as an in store premium in 1935-1937.
The 1936 R313 premium photos were put out by National Chicle Co. and have a thin "Fine Pen" signature. There are 120 different known.
The R314 premium photos were put out by Goudey Gum Co. and some by the World Wide Gum Co. of Canada. These photos were obtained as an in store premium by redeeming 2 Goudey wrappers to the store keeper. R314's have a "Wide Pen" signature, with a total of 241 different cards known. The R314's are actually made up of 5 subsets.
R314-1 is from 1936, is the most common and have "Litho in USA" at bottom corner. There are 120 different cards known.
R314-2 is from 1935, is the same as R314-3 but have borders. 24 different cards known.
R314-3 is from 1935, same as R314-2 but lacks the white border. 24 different cards known.
R314-4 (aka V352-1) is from 1937, and has a creamy colored stock. 25 different cards known.
R314-5 (aka V352-2) is the rarest subset by far. They have a matt finish, not glossy. This rare set includes 12* (*maybe 13) players from Detroit, and 39 from Canadian Minor League teams (Montreal & Toronto), with 51* (*maybe 52) total cards known. Note: The Gehringer and Greenberg cards in R314-5 are similar to R314-4 except for slight cropping/contrast differences. |
